New Winchester StaBALL Powders

A little while back, in October 2022, Hodgdon had posted on their Facebook page that they were going to be adding some new Winchester StaBALL powders to the StaBALL line. Currently, they only have the StaBALL 6.5, which has been a great powder in terms of getting good velocity, though accuracy seems to be a bit more difficult to achieve that some others. Well, the new Winchester StaBALL powders are now listed on the Hodgdon Shop website.

The two new StaBALL powders are Winchester® StaBALL™ HD and Winchester® StaBALL™ Match

Winchester® StaBALL™ HD is the new magnum powder and lists that it is ideal for 6.5 PRC, 7MM Remington Mag, 7mm Remington Ultra Mag, 300 PRC, and more.

Winchester® StaBALL™ Match appears to be for lighter weight cartridges, and lists that it is ideal for the 223 Remington, 224 Valkyrie, 22-250 Remington, 308 Winchester, 30-06 and more.

The load data is not available yet, but the preview of the Hodgdon 2023 Annual Manual prominently features articles on both powders, with Steve Gash covering the StaBALL HD and Joseph Von Benedikt covering the StaBALL Match.

This should be interesting to see how these two newcomers perform. I miss the H870 powder, which consistently shows up as a top performer in QuickLOAD for some of my heavier cartridges. It has good density and low pressure for the speeds that it is able to achieve. Maybe StaBALL HD will be its replacement?
